Unlike other poker players, I choose not to wait for very nice hands to come my way. In fact, I love the challenge of playing the not-so-good starting hands in poker.
I am excited whenever I get a good pre-flop hand in Texas Hold'em poker. After all, who does not wish of pocket aces? However, I feel like I could function better if I am holding weaker hand.
Don't get me wrong. This is not to say that I am ungrateful about getting a powerful poker hand. It is just that I win more if I am holding a weaker one. It seems weird, but I can explain my point.
Having a weak starting hand is a challenge to anyone. Thus it makes me think more of my succeeding moves; whereas if I get a very nice hand right from the start, I tend to relax. In the end, I end up losing to a weaker hand because he had made me fold when I could have done the same to him so much earlier. Therefore, a weak starting poker hand makes mo more vigilant, which is good in poker.
I also noticed that it is easier fro me to pretend that I have a strong hand than to hide that I do have a strong hand. It seems that I could not quite hide my excitement. Thus, when playing a strong poker hand, my opponents will notice that they do not have a chance to win, so they will fold. So instead of taking a huge pot, I will end up with a small one.
I also get more thrills in playing the weaker poker hand. This is because it is not an easy feat and other poker players would simply fold if they got one. Me, I take on the challenge and brave the consequences of my decision.
It is also more fulfilling for me if I win with weak hand than with a strong hand. It would mean to me that I had won because of my skills and not because of my luck. I love being in control of my game and getting the credit for winning instead of the cards taking it. If you have a very powerful, it does not impress me greatly if you win. It seems natural for you to do that because you can beat all the other cards. You won because of your luck, not because you are good in poker.
These are my reasons for loving a weak starting hand in poker. You may not agree with me, but that's fine because these are just my opinions.
BTW: I recently found a nice site with some nice Poker Wallpapers. Go check it out.
And when I find myself in a poker rut, I turn to backgammon games to give me a different perspective. Playing backgammon helps me improve my poker game by making me look at the same problems differently.

I dream that one day I will be able to win in some big poker tournament like the World Series of poker. It is not easy to fulfill that kind of dream, I know. But hey, as long as it is free to dream, who would stop me from doing so?
It must take a lot to win in such poker tournaments. I could not even begin to imagine what kind of preparation WSOP main event champions had done just to achieve their dream. To win something that big is not something you prepare for overnight. It must have taken them years of poker experience, and lots of gambling money to do that.
If I ever get to join the World Series of Poker, I do not want to be labeled as dead money. Dead money in poker means an easy opponent. If ever given the chance of playing at the World Series of Poker, I surely hope to come there fighting.
Could you imagine how a WSOP player feels during the tournament? If I were them, I would be totally nervous. Imagine me playing with the world's best poker player. Some of the players who join the WSOP are already made players, that I feel like a beginner's name like mine should not be spoken with their names in the same breath. Not only that, the world will also watch me play. I certainly do not want to make a fool of myself in front of a big audience.
The tension and pressure will rise as I move up the winning ladder in the WSOP, assuming that I win even a single game, which I doubt. If I get to the higher level, people will surely expect me to be a good poker player because I have managed to beat the other poker players previously at the other tables. It would be embarrassing if I could not live up to their expectations.
I have realized that it takes more than just poker skills to play, and win at the WSOP. Confidence therefore is very important in tournaments as grand as the WSOP. If I am not confident enough, I will surely commit mistakes in my actions at the poker table. Prior to entering the tournament, I must first convince myself that I am a good poker player. This I must do before I even dream of convincing others that I am an excellent poker player.
